1. Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Remove console assembly as follows:
a. Remove cup holder and console plug, Fig. 23.
b. Remove rear console assembly.
c. Remove radio panel and radio.
d. Remove switch trim panel C and console side cover.
e. Remove front console trim panel.
f. On models equipped with manual transaxle, remove shift lever knob.
g. On all models, remove front console assembly.
3. Remove hood release handle and rheostat, Fig. 24.
4. Remove switch trim panel B and knee protector assembly.
5. Remove steering column cover.
6. Remove glove box striker, glove box and cross pipe cover.
7. Using a flat tip screwdriver, remove center air outlet assembly.
8. Remove heater control assembly retaining screws.
9. Remove meter bezel.
10. Remove combination meter.
11. On models equipped with mechanical type speedometer, disconnect speedometer at transaxle, then remove adapter locks from instrument panel.
12. Slightly pull speedometer cable toward passenger compartment and remove adapter.
13. On all models, remove speaker or instrument panel top covers.
14. Disconnect instrument panel harness connector.
15. Remove steering column retaining bolts.
16. Remove instrument panel assembly.
17. Reverse procedure to install.
