PURPOSE

This service bulletin provides information regarding overly tight accessory socket covers which may be found on early production models of the 1991 3000GT.

Figure 1. Component Identification:

DESCRIPTION

When installing portable electronic equipment such as a cellular telephone or CB radio, a common power source is the accessory socket located in the center console.

On some early production vehicles, the accessory socket cover may be tight and difficult to open. Using strong force to open the cover may cause the entire switch garnish to pop out, possibly damaging the switch garnish retaining clips. On later production vehicles and replacement parts, the cover tightness condition has been changed.

If a tight accessory socket cover is found, replace the accessory socket as instructed below.

1. Carefully pry the switch garnish out to expose the rear portion of the accessory socket.

2. Unplug the wire connectors on the rear of the accessory socket and remove the socket.

3. Assemble in reverse order, using a new accessory socket.

In addition, if the switch garnish retaining clips are damaged, replace the switch garnish as instructed below.

1. Remove the switch garnish from the console, exposing rear portions of the accessory socket, Active Aero switch, and Cruise Control switch.

2. Unplug all wire connectors leading to each component, noting proper locations for later reassembly.

3. Remove the switch garnish, Active Aero switch, and Cruise Control switch.

4. Reassemble in reverse order, using a new switch garnish and accessory socket.

The proper procedure for opening the accessory socket cover is as follows:

Figure 2.:

1. Grasp opening tab with thumb and index finger. See Figure 2.
