POPPING ON ACCELERATION


PURPOSE

A "popping" noise on acceleration may be heard from the front of some 1991 3000GT VR4 vehicles. This noise may come from interference between the left air dam support bracket and the crossmember. On acceleration the engine torque causes the crossmember to move and contact the left air dam support bracket. This bulletin describes the repair procedures to correct this condition.

Figure 1:

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove the front active aero air dam.

2. Remove the left air dam support bracket. (Figure 1).

Figure 2:

3. As shown in Figure 2, grind off 1/4 inch from the corner of the air dam support bracket.

WARNING: When performing any grinding operation, safety goggles must be worn.

4. Apply a coating of anti-rust paint to the bracket.

5. Reinstall the air dam support bracket and the front active aero air dam.
