PURPOSE

This Technical Service Bulletin describes the proper operation of the glove box release mechanism on all 3000GT models. The glove box door is equipped with a detent mechanism that allows it to open in 2 distinct steps. The first step allows the glove box door to open approximately 1 inch. With further opening force, the glove box door will open fully.

This design allows the occupant to open the door to the first detent by pinching the latch and then to grasp the door firmly so it can be lowered fully under the complete control of the occupant. This two-stage action helps prevent the glove box door from banging the occupant's knees when d is opened and possibly spilling the contents. Since this 2 stage operation is normal, please, do not lubricate the glove box detent mechanism or otherwise alter the mechanism.
