MODEL 1992 Diamante, 1991-92 3000GT

SUBJECT:
NON-CANCELLATION OF TURN SIGNAL INDICATOR

PURPOSE

This Technical Service Bulletin describes how to correct a turn signal indicator that does not cancel after the steering wheel is returned to the center position.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

1992 Diamante and 1991-92 3000GT.

DESCRIPTION

On some 1992 Diamantes and 1991-92 3000GTs, the turn signal indicator may not cancel after the steering wheel is returned to the center position. This condition may be caused by an interference between the turn signal switch bracket and ratchet lever.

To eliminate the interference between the bracket and the ratchet lever, a corrective procedure has been established that involves shimming the front plate of the turn signal switch.

CORRECTIVE PROCEDURE

1. Record all radio preset stations.

2. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Wait at least 30 seconds for SRS system discharge before proceeding.

3. Remove the upper and lower halves of the steering column cover.

4. Remove two screws holding the turn signal switch to the column switch assembly. The screws are located at the top center and bottom center of the turn signal switch. Refer to Figure 1.

5. Separate the turn signal switch from the column switch assembly, but do not disconnect the turn signal harness. Refer to Figure 2.

6. Observe the four screws on the front plate of the turn signal switch. Loosen, but do not remove the two inboard screws. Refer to Figure 3.

NOTE:
To avoid internal damage to the turn signal switch, do not remove any of the four screws attaching the front plate to the main body.

7. Insert one C-clip underneath each of the two loosened inboard screws. Make sure that the C-clips are placed between the front plate and the main body of the turn signal switch. Refer to Figure 4.

NOTE:
A supply of C-clips is provided with this TSB.

8. Tighten the two inboard screws on the front plate of the turn signal switch. The clearance created by the two C-clips will allow the ratchet lever to operate without binding.

9. Assemble in reverse order, making sure not to over-tighten any of the screws.

10. Reset radio presets and digital clock.
