PURPOSE
This Technical Service Bulletin describes vehicle production changes and corrective repairs for the left or right side door glass. These changes/repairs help to eliminate internal door noises and wind/water leaks.
NOTE:
The information contained in this bulletin supplements Technical Service Bulletin number TSB-91-42A-001, entitled "WIND NOISE/WATER LEAK".
VEHICLES AFFECTED
1991 and 1992 300OGT
DESCRIPTION
On some 1991 and 1992 300OGTs, you may receive customer complaints of noises and/or wind/water leaks coming from the door glass. To correct these conditions, two changes to the door glass assembly were made during vehicle production:
1. Beginning with vehicles produced on 01/30/92, an increased amount of grease has been added to the door glass rear guide track. This change helps to prevent a creaking noise which may be heard from the door glass rear guide roller.
2. Beginning with vehicles produced on 02/17/92, an extra washer (1.6 mm thick) has been added to the two upper adjustment nuts of the door glass rear guide track. This change gives the door glass more adjustment, helping to reduce wind noises and water leaks.
The remainder of this bulletin explains the procedure to follow when repairing vehicles produced before the change dates.
CORRECTIVE PROCEDURE
NOTE:
Step 5 of the following procedure requires use of the 1991 or 1992-93 3000GT Service Manual, Volume 1.
1. Remove the door trim and waterproof film. Refer to the diagram.
2. The window regulator bracket bolts may be slightly loose, causing a rattling noise. To reduce the noise, make sure each bolt is properly tightened. Tightening torque is 4 to 6 N-M (2.9 to 4.3 ft.lbs.).
3. Some rear guide roller channels do not have enough lubricant. This may cause a dry creaking noise when the window is rolled up or down. To reduce the noise, spread a thin layer of multi-purpose grease inside the track for lubrication.
If the door glass requires adjustment due to wind and/or water leaks around the window weather-stripping, proceed to Step 4.
4. Remove the rear guide track upper nuts and place a 1.6 mm thick (.063 in.) washer on each guide track stud, between the track and the door assembly. Retighten the nuts 4 to 6 N-M (2.9 to 4.3 ft.lbs.).
5. Perform a complete adjustment of the door glass. Refer to the 1991 3000GT Service Manual, pages 42-14 through 42-16 or the 1992-93 3000GT Service Manual, pages 42-21 through 42-23 for adjustment procedures.
