SUBJECT: 1991 - 1992 CALIFORNIA GALANT VR4
EMISSION RECALL

PURPOSE

This bulletin provides a detailed procedure for inspection and repair of the emission control system on certain turbocharged 1991 and 1992 2.0L California Galant VR-4 models. A letter has been sent to all owners of the affected vehicles telling them to return their vehicles to their Mitsubishi Motors dealer to have the engine serviced. A copy of this letter is shown in this bulletin.

Please note that the customer is not to be charged for the repairs covered by this bulletin. To achieve the desired results, the procedure MUST be followed EXACTLY as described in this bulletin.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

All dealerships MUST perform all steps as described in this bulletin. Incomplete repairs will lead to emissions non-compliance and obvious customer dissatisfaction. The California Air Resources Board ("CARB") may survey the results of this campaign several months after starting. If incomplete repairs or non-compliance is found, another recall could be ordered or other action undertaken by CARB. In addition, California residents who own an affected vehicle may be required to send in a Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction form to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMU) as evidence of recall completion when they apply for vehicle registration renewal. Each customer whose vehicle is registered within California MUST be given a completed Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction form after the recall has been completed.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This procedure applies to 1991 and 1992 California 2.0L turbocharged California Galant VR-4 models equipped with manual transmissions without limitation as to mileage. It does not apply to any other models.
