SUBJECT: FUEL TANK DRAIN PLUG





PURPOSE

This bulletin provides supplemental fuel tank drain plug information for 1991 Trucks, Galants, and 3000GTs. Vehicles manufactured since March 25, 1991 incorporate a new aluminum type of fuel tank drain plug sealing washer. To correctly seal the aluminum sealing washer the fuel tank drain plug is torqued to a higher value. Fuel tank drain plugs designed for use with an aluminum sealing washer are made of a stronger material and can be identified with a number "7 " stamped on the head.

DETAILS

When the fuel tank drain plug is removed, technicians are advised to identify the drain plug and the sealing washer. Drain plugs with a "4 " stamped on the head (used on vehicles manufactured before March 15, 1991) require a fiber type sealing washer and are torqued to 13-20 N-m (10-15 ft.lbs.).

Fuel tank drain plugs with a "7 " stamped on the head require an aluminum type sealing washer (silver in color) and when reinstalled, the plug should be torqued to 17-26 N-m (12-19 ft.lbs.).
