Exhaust System - Replacement Part Differences

NO.: TSB-93-15-002
DATE: May, 1993
MODEL: 1991-93 Precis

SUBJECT:
EXHAUST SYSTEM UPDATE

PURPOSE

This Technical Service Bulletin describes service replacement part differences and associated installation procedures. Refer to this bulletin when replacing the front exhaust pipe and/or tail pipe assembly on a 1991 or later Precis vehicle.

DETAIL

When replacing the front exhaust pipe, compare the length of the pipe "bellows". If the replacement pipe bellows are longer than the current/existing pipe, then the vibration damper on the tail pipe assembly must be removed. This is necessary to properly balance the exhaust system.

CAUTION:
Do not install the newer design tail pipe on the "older" design front exhaust pipe. The "newer" design tail pipe does not have a vibration dampener mounting bracket. Installing the "newer" tail pipe assembly on exhaust systems containing the "older" front exhaust pipe may lead to front exhaust pipe damage.

If changing both the front exhaust pipe and the tail pipe assembly on a vehicle, it is recommended that the "newer" designs be used.
