SUBJECT: POWER STEERING SERVICING PRECAUTIONS

PURPOSE

Inside the Precis power steering pump housing is a pressure switch which can be damaged during servicing of the power steering system and related components. The pressure switch contains seals which are made of a hard plastic material. The plastic seals can be damaged if during various service procedures; 1) The switch is hit by a tool; 2) Another component hits the switch; 3) A pry-bar presses against the switch housing; or 4) The wire connector is not removed when the pump is removed from the vehicle. If the switch is damaged power steering fluid will leak from it.
