NO.: TSB-94-52B-001DATE: June, 1994
MODEL: All With SRS
SUBJECT:
SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAIN SYSTEM - COMPONENT REPLACEMENT INFORMATION
PURPOSE
This bulletin updates the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) inspection and replacement information shown in the service manuals of all MMSA (Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America) vehicles equipped with SRS. The updated information will also be included in 1995 and later service manuals.
In the past, MMC (Mitsubishi Motor Company, Tokyo) required most SRS components to be replaced following air bag deployment. Now, some SRS components may be reused, as long as inspection according to service manual instructions finds them to be functioning normally.

DESCRIPTION
After SRS operation (air bag deployment), all SRS-related components must be carefully inspected for damage. Some components must be replaced, regardless of their condition. Other components do not require replacement unless they are visibly damaged, or if inspection (according to service manual instructions) finds them to be abnormal.
A list of components requiring replacement versus components requiring inspection and possible replacement is shown.
NOTE:
For inspection and replacement of SRS components, refer to the appropriate vehicle's service manual.
SRS Components Requiring Replacement After Air Bag Deployment:
^ Air Bag Module(s)
^ Impact Sensors
^ SRS Electronic Control Module (ECM)
SRS Components Requiring Inspection After Air Bag Deployment (Replace These Components Only If They Are Damaged Or Not Functioning Normally):
^ Clock Spring*
^ Steering Column**
^ Steering Shaft Intermediate Joint Assembly**
^ Steering Wheel
^ Related Wiring Harnesses
* Although the clock spring is not always replaced after air bag deployment, extreme care should be exercised to ensure it is inspected correctly and completely. During the inspection, pay particular attention to the condition of the clock spring's electrical connectors. If any abnormalities are found, replace the clock spring.
** To inspect the steering column and steering shaft intermediate joint assembly after air bag deployment, check the steering wheel for binding, noise, difficult operation, or excessive free play If any abnormalities are found, replace the steering column and steering shaft intermediate joint assembly.
