Bearing Selection Procedure





1. Read the color coding on a replacement crankshaft (indicates the journal outside diameter size range). The coded paint marks (yellow, white, or none) refer to the journal next to the mark.





2. On the bottom rear of the engine block is a set of Roman numerals that identify the main bearing support inside diameter. These four numerals will be I, III, or III depending on the size range of the bearing support. Reading front to back, the numerals refer to journals # 1, # 2, # 3, and # 4. The front of the engine (pulley end) is shown on the left side of the illustration.

3. Using the table shown at the end of this bulletin, select the proper bearing thickness.

The thickness mark is on the outside end of each bearing and the color is on the edge, as shown in the illustration.
