Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Purpose

This bulletin provides detailed crankshaft main bearing selection procedure for 1993 V-6 engines. This information is not contained in the 92-93 Engine Overhaul Manual. Please make a note in the 92-93 Engine Overhaul Manual to refer to this bulletin for bearing selection and as reference to this bulletin, please write this bulletin number in the TSB revision box on the affected service manual pages.

Note:
If a 1993 crankshaft is installed in an earlier vehicle (due to parts supersession) selective fitting of the main bearings is not required. Replace the bearings as specified in the parts ordering system for the year/model of engine being repaired.

DETAILS

Note:
Selective fit is not required for the connecting rod bearings.

The purpose of the selective fit main bearings is to minimize crankshaft vibration. If the crankshaft must be replaced, the replacement crankshaft will be color coded.

Note:
A crankshaft in a factory assembled engine has no color coding. For a non-color coded crankshaft, replace the main bearings with the same originally installed size.
