AUTOMATIC SHOULDER BELT DOOR LATCH SWITCH
SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN (EXPO/EXPO LRV)
PURPOSE
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain 1992 and 1993 Expo and Expo LRV models to replace the driver's and passenger's automatic shoulder belt door latch switches. Vehicles built between March 1, 1991 and November 20, 1992 may have automatic shoulder belt door latch switches which can malfunction. If either the driver's or passenger's switches malfunction, the corresponding automatic shoulder belt will not move along its path above the door and lock into position when the door is closed.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Symptom
The automatic shoulder belt may not move from the A-Pillar into its normal restraint position at the rear of the front door.
Cause
The automatic shoulder belt switch which is mounted on the front door latch may malfunction.
Remedy
On all affected vehicles, both front door latches must be removed and the latch lot date number checked. If the door latch lot date number is in the affected range, the door latch switch must be replaced with the door latch switch kit described in the Parts Information section of this bulletin.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
MMSA will send a letter to all owners of affected vehicles instructing them to return their vehicle to a Mitsubishi dealer to have this campaign procedure performed at no charge. A copy of the letter is shown.

PARTS INFORMATION
A small supply of each switch kit will be allocated to dealers who received affected vehicles. Additional orders can be placed through the normal parts ordering system if the initial allocation is insufficient for your dealership.

No other charges may be claimed on the "C" type campaign claims. Any other unrelated warranty covered repairs must be separated out and submitted on a normal "W" type claim (E-2 menu option).
