Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Background Information

- Headliners on early production vehicles (produced before March 9, 1996) attach to the top cover above the rear glass. These early headliners should be replaced if a sagging condition occurs. Replacement headliners have the loop fastener for headliner attachment lined up to the top of the rear window glass. When installing a replacement headliner on an early production vehicle, a new hook fastener must be added to the glass to provide an attachment point for the new style headliner.

- The headliner on some vehicles may sag or pull away from the top edge of the rear glass. This is caused by the hook fastener adhesive coming loose from the window glass. If this condition occurs, remove the old hook fastener from the glass and install a new hook fastener.

- Some headliners on early production vehicles may pull away from the # 1 bow. This is caused by misalignment of the dual lock (hook and loop fastener) on the # 1 bow and the headliner and loosening of the dual lock fastener from the # 1 bow. To correct this condition, the dual lock on the # 1 bow must be replaced according to the instructions in this bulletin.
