Body - Trunk Release Cable Installation/Routing

NO: TSB-03-42A-001
DATE: April, 2003
MODEL: 1999-2003 Galant

SUBJECT:
CHANGES TO THE TRUNK LID LOCK
RELEASE CABLE

PURPOSE

This bulletin contains information about changes to the trunk lid lock release cable and related installation and routing procedures.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Beginning with early September 1999 Galant production, the trunk lid lock release cable was changed in length and routing. The new cable is shorter than the original (3808 mm [150 inch] length for the new cable compared to 4287 mm [169 inch] length for the old-style cable) and is routed differently. There was no part number change, so the parts received from your Mitsubishi PDC or in your dealer stock may be of either configuration. Therefore, if you order a new replacement part, you may receive a cable which is different from the cable originally installed in the vehicle.

The different cables can be identified by measuring their lengths. Installation and cable routing information for the both cables is included in the Procedures section of this bulletin.
