DOME LIGHT FALLING DOWN
PURPOSE
This bulletin Contains instructions for correcting a condition where the dome light on some 1999-2001 Galant vehicles may come loose and fall down from the headliner/roof.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Symptom
The dome light on affected vehicles may come out of its mounting in the headliner/roof and fall down.
Cause
The headliner may interfere with the dome light bracket attaching tabs, preventing the dome light from snapping securely into the correct mounting position.
Remedy
To correct this condition, install a new dome light assembly, check the bracket mounting tabs for proper position and configuration, and crimp the headliner material to allow more clearance.

PROCEDURE
For additional information concerning dome light replacement, refer to Group 54 in the service manual.
1. With the old dome light assembly removed, inspect the dome light bracket, which is mounted to the vehicle roof, to make sure the mounting tabs are not bent in and are in proper alignment with each other. If the tabs are not properly aligned, carefully bend the bracket tabs into the correct position.
NOTE:
For reference, the photo shows the bracket out of the vehicle. However this repair does not require removing the bracket.
2. With pliers, crimp around the edges of the headliner where it fits under the dome light housing to make sure there is no interference with the dome light. If there is interference, the dome light assembly may not snap securely into all the bracket tabs.
NOTE:
Make sure the pliers used to crimp the headliner material edges are clean to prevent staining or soiling of the headliner.
3. Install the new dome light assembly. Make sure the dome light assembly snaps securely into all four of the dome light mounting bracket tabs.
PARTS INFORMATION
Use the chart shown to determine the correct dome light assembly for the model being repaired. Dome light assemblies for vehicles with sunroofs are the same as those for vehicles without sunroofs.
