Entertainment Device - Infinity Audio Volume Fluctuation

NO.: TSB-99-54-009
DATE: October, 1999
MODEL: See below

SUBJECT:
INFINITY AUDIO VOLUME FLUCTUATION

PURPOSE
Affected vehicles are equipped with "Active Sound Control," a new audio feature that automatically increases and decreases the audio volume in small increments according to the vehicle speed. On these vehicles, the audio system volume may suddenly become overly loud when the vehicle speed accelerates to about 45 mph. When the vehicle speed slows to under 40 mph, the volume decreases. To eliminate this condition, the audio unit calibration has been improved. Replace the audio unit with the new, improved part listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin.

Some affected vehicles have already been repaired at the port of entry by installing an additional separate electrical harness, which is not available for dealer use and is not included in the service manual. If a vehicle with this extra harness experiences any other future audio problems, remove and discard the additional harness and replace the audio unit with an upgraded exchange unit.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
2000 Montero "Endeavor" and Galant models equipped with Mitsubishi/Infinity(R) audio system

PROCEDURE
This is a Panasonic-built audio unit. Contact Yamada Electronics at 800-826-4926 for an upgraded exchange unit.
