Horn - Sounds Without Pressing Button/Inoperative

No.: TSB-02-54-002
DATE: March, 2002
MODEL: See below

SUBJECT:
HORN OPERATION

PURPOSE

On some affected vehicles, the horn may sound without pressing the horn button, or continue to sound after releasing the horn button, or the horn could become inoperative. These conditions are due to the contacts in the horn switch intermittently closing. If the horn sounds continuously, the internal windings in the horn can be damaged.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

1999-2001 Galants built before 6/7/01 (VIN 4A3AA46G31E220909).

PROCEDURE

1. Confirm whether the horn operates properly. Refer to Group 54A in the Galant service manual for diagnosis procedures. If the horn is faulty, replace the horn.

2. If the horn has been previously replaced and the problem has returned, replace both the horn and the driver's air bag (Group 54B in the Galant service manual).
