FRONT HARNESS SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain 2002 Galant vehicles because the front harness may contact a rough edge in the engine compartment. This could eventually damage the harness, resulting in grounded circuit(s). In the worst case, there may be engine hesitation, or a loss of stop/turn signal lamp operation.
Inspect the front harness for damage and repair as necessary. Install a plastic protector over the weld nut (V6 engine) or over the bolt (4-cylinder engine) as described in this bulletin.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
2002 Galant models produced between 5/1/02 and 5/15/02
IMPORTANT
Affected inventory vehicles must be inspected/repaired before the vehicle is sold. Dealers must check their inventory vehicles' VINs on the Warranty Super Screen to verify whether the vehicle is an affected VIN for this recall campaign.
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
A letter will be sent to all owners of affected vehicles, telling them to bring their vehicle to their Mitsubishi Motors dealer to have the front harness inspected. A copy of the customer notification letter appears later in this bulletin.

REQUIRED OPERATIONS
Before starting this campaign procedure, CHECK ON THE WARRANTY SUPERSCREEN to verify that the vehicle is an affected VIN for this campaign and that this campaign procedure has not already been completed.
1. Inspect the front harness for damage. Repair as necessary.
2. Install the plastic protector listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin as follows:
a. V6 engine
Peel off the liner from the foam circle. Affix the foam circle onto the weld nut threads. Then install the clip.
b. 4-Cylinder engine
Place the cap over the bolt threads as shown.
NOTE:
The cap should be installed over the inboard bolt, not the bolt located near the side panel.
PARTS INFORMATION
A quantity of plastic protectors, equal to the number of affected vehicles delivered to your dealership have been provided with the paper copies of this bulletin.
