DOOR MIRROR SERVICING

This bulletin supercedes TSB-04-51-004, issued October 2004, to include door mirror screw replacement parts information. New information is indicated by " > "

PURPOSE

Separate replacement parts are available for the door mirror bracket, base, and gasket. If the other mirror components are undamaged and they function properly, replace only the damaged parts. Do not replace the mirror assembly.





This bulletin contains procedures for replacing the door mirror base, bracket, and gasket. Replace only the components that are damaged.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
2004 and later Galant models

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the door mirror from the vehicle. Refer to Group 51 in the service manual.

2. Remove the mirror from the glass as follows:

a. Tilt up the glass. Cover the housing with a clean shop cloth to protect it.





b. Remove the glass by using a screwdriver in the two places under the glass. Insert the screwdriver in the areas shown, then twist gently to release the glass. Be careful not to break the glass.

3. For heated mirrors only:





a. Remove the two heater terminals from the glass.





b. Remove the power unit by removing four screws.





c. Remove the connector from the power unit.

4. (All mirrors) Remove the bracket and base:





a. Remove three screws from the bracket.

b. Remove the gasket from the base.





c. Remove the screw behind the gasket and the two screws at the bottom of the base.





d. Remove the wiring harness from the retention tab (behind the bracket).





5. Separate the bracket, base, gasket, and mirror housing. Replace the damaged mirror component (base, bracket, or gasket), using the parts listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin.

6. If the gasket is damaged, replace it as follows:





a. Remove the tape from the gasket.

b. If necessary, spray a light coating of silicone spray in the gasket opening, to allow the power unit connector to come through.





c. Gently pull the power unit connector through the gasket opening.

d. Replace the gasket, and install the tape on the new gasket.

7. Reassemble the mirror in the reverse order of dissemble.

8. Reinstall the mirror to the vehicle. Refer to Group 51 in the service manual.
