SOUND PAD INTERFERENCE WITH SUNROOF
PURPOSE
Affected vehicles have two silver sound-reducing pads installed on the roof panel at the rear sunroof opening. If any portion of a pad comes loose from the vehicle roof, it may interfere with sunroof operation. Customers may report a scraping noise when opening the sunroof, the sunroof getting stuck, or the sunroof not opening all the way. If this condition is not eliminated, the sunroof could be damaged during operation. If necessary, re-secure the pads as described in this bulletin.
Inspect all affected vehicles in dealer inventory for this condition.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
2004 Galant models with sunroof produced before 1/21/04
PROCEDURE
1. Open the sunshade and sunroof. Using a flashlight, inspect the area between the roof panel and the sunroof glass. If any portion of the silver pads appears to be loose, continue with Step 2.
2. Remove the headliner. Refer to Group 52A in the Galant service manual.
NOTE:
Sunroof must be closed in order to access pads.
3. Trim off any damaged portion of the sunroof pads.
4. Apply pressure to any loose area of each pad to re-secure it to the roof panel. Be sure the edges are firmly affixed.
a. If the pad does not securely affix to the roof panel, continue with Step 5 for adhesive application.
5. Clean the surface of the roof panel where the pad is loose. Apply 3M 8061 clear sealant or equivalent to the sunroof pad and secure it to the roof panel. Wait about 10 minutes, then verify that the pad does not come loose when pulled lightly.
6. Make any necessary repairs to the sunroof.
7. Open and close the sunroof to confirm proper operation without pad interference.
