Brakes - Rust on Brake Rotors
SOURCE: Mitsubishi Tech Talk Article June 2004
TITLE: Rust on Brake Rotors
APPLIES To: 2004 Galant
SERVICE TIP:
Some Galant DE, ES, and LS models are equipped with steel wheels; Galant GTS models are equipped with aluminum alloy wheels. The rotors on GTS models with aluminum wheels have a special coating on the rotor hub area to prevent rust. If you are upgrading a DE, ES or LS model from the original steel wheels to aluminum alloy wheels, and there is rust on the rotor hub surfaces, you can remove the rust with a wire brush, then apply a coating of high temperature silver paint to the rotor hub area only. Painting of brake rotors is not covered under the vehicle warranty and is considered to be a cost of the wheel upgrade process.
