BLOCK HEATER INSTALLATION

PURPOSE

Installation procedures provided with the engine block heater show an incorrect location. This bulletin contains the corrected block heater installation location for block heater kit p/n MZ312865.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

2004 Lancer and Outlander models equipped with 2.4L MIVEC engine

PROCEDURE

Revise the installation procedure provided in block heater kit p/n MZ312865 as follows:

1. Remove the core plug identified below as (3). This core plug must be removed to prevent possible coolant flow blockage. Do not attempt to install the block heater in a different core plug location.





2. Clean the machined part of the plug hole. Remove any burrs, compound applications, sealants, paint, rough spots, and sharp edges.

3. Lubricate the block heater 0-ring with engine coolant. Insert the block heater, with the heating element pointed in the 3:00 direction.

4. Tighten the block heater screw to 20-25 in/lbs (23-29 cm/kg).

5. Firmly attach the power cord to the block heater. Route the cord away from hot or moving parts and secure them with the provided tie wraps.
