Heater Core: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove bolts securing pedal and steering column brackets, Fig. 23, disconnect brake and clutch control rods, and move pedal and column assembly to left.
3. Disconnect air mix door control cable and water valve rod, then remove control link from left hand side of heater case.
4. Remove heater core cover and disconnect hoses from heater core, taking care not to drip coolant in passenger compartment.

5. Remove heater core and water valve assembly from heater case, Fig. 24.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Make sure that steering column is properly aligned and that brake and clutch pedal freeplay are within specifications.
b. Adjust mix door cable and water valve rod.
c. Remove radiator cap and add coolant to system.
d. Insert pin into bleeder hole in 3-way valve, Fig. 25.
e. Force pin into valve to bleed heater system while maintaining coolant level, then remove pin. Do not start engine while bleeder valve is open.
