SHOCK ABSORBER TYPE SEAT BELTS:

APPLIED MODELS: 1987 Stanza and 1987 Sentra

SERVICE INFORMATION

The 1987 Stanza and Sentra models are equipped with new "shock absorber" type front seat belts that feature a sewn-in loop close to the lower anchor. If the belt is severely stressed, the stitching that forms this loop will intentionally break, allowing the belt to extend slightly. When this happens, a "REPLACE BELT" label will become visible above the belt loop cover, and the seat belt must be replaced.

A normal and stressed belt are shown below.

DRIVER & PASSENGER HARNESSES:

NOTE: In certain Sentra models, the shoulder harness anchor location on the "B" pillar is at different heights for the driver (low) and passenger (high) sides. These locations are correct and have been selected to provide maximum seat belt effectiveness. Please disregard the section of the New Model Technical Information video (1987A Sentra/Stanza) which addressed the relocation of these attachments. Do not change the anchor location from the factory-installed position.
