SERVICE INFORMATION
Some customers with the Applied Models may complain that their automatic transmission/transaxle will not shift into overdrive when the engine is cold. Please explain that this condition is normal until the engine coolant temperature reaches 140~F. This is to allow faster engine warm-up for improved driveability and emission control. See the chart below for transmission O.D. operating conditions.
OVERDRIVE CONTROL SYSTEM

Coolant temperature ON 3rd
below 140~F (60~C)
Kickdown OFF 3rd
(controlled by control valve)
All other conditions OFF O.D.
which have the proper vehicle speed and throttle position for O.D. (except cold engine and kickdown)
