DOOR HINGE NOISE


This bulletin supersedes Technical Bulletin BF85-011 with improved information. DO NOT use the procedure described in the previous bulletin.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Some vehicles may exhibit a "popping" noise from the door hinges. This condition is most noticeable when the vehicle is driven over rough roads or during acceleration and deceleration.

Vehicles which exhibit these symptoms may be corrected by installing countermeasure hinge pins. The countermeasure pins have been coated with molybdenum disulfide. DO NOT remove this coating when installing the pins. Countermeasure hinge pins have been applied to production vehicles beginning with the Applied VINs below.

E-Ring Removal:

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the E-ring from the top hinge pin and discard.


2. Have a second person support the door and remove the top hinge pin. Install the new hinge pin (P/N 80406-01L02) and a new E-Ring (P/N 00922-50610).

CAUTION: To prevent damage to the door and hinge, the door must be supported when a hinge pin is removed.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for bottom hinge.
