SERVICE INFORMATION

The following pages outline the installation procedure for the new, liquidoil pan gasket which is used when the oil pan is removed for service.

NOTE: Liquid gasket should not be used on engines originally equipped with a rubber gasket.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove all necessary parts to expose the oil pan.

2. Remove oil pan bolts.

3. Lightly tap Seal Cutter (KV10111100) or suitable tool along both sides of the oil pan to separate the pan from the cylinder block.

CAUTION:

^ DO NOT drive seal cutter into the oil pump or rear oil seal retainer; the aluminum mating face could be damaged.

^ DO NOT use a screwdriver as a substitute for seal cutter; the oil flange could be damaged.
4. Use a gasket scraper to remove all debris and old gasket material from the oil pan and cylinder block mating surfaces. Both surfaces must be completely cleaned. Brake cleaner can be used to remove all oil and solvents on pan surface to insure proper sealing of RTV sealant.

5. Apply RTV sealant to the oil pump gasket and rear oil seal retainer as shown. (Rear oil seal retainer not used on Z24.)

6. Cut the tip of the liquid gasket tube (P/N 999MP-A7007) as shown to obtain a bead width of 3.5 to 4.5 mm (0.138 to 0.177 in.).

7. Apply a continuous bead of liquid gasket along the groove of the oil pan mating surface.

NOTE: In the area near each bolt hole, apply the liquid gasket bead as shown below. The bead should be run on the inner side of the oil pan mating surface as shown.
8. Position oil pan on block WITHIN 5 MINUTES after applying the liquid gasket.

9. Install and tighten oil pan bolts IN REVERSE order of removal.

10. WAIT AT LEAST 30 MINUTES BEFORE FILLING CRANKCASE WITH OIL.
