FRONT SIDE MEMBER REPLACEMENT

APPLIED MODEL:
1987 Stanza (T12)

SERVICE INFORMATION

The front section of the front side member can be replaced if the area behind the engine mounting bracket hole is not damaged. Use the following procedure.

1. Cut off the front section of the service part front side member as shown. Determine butting position avoiding all holes. Allow approximately 1/4" (6 mm) for overlap between front side member and service part.

2. The correct location to scribe a line on the original front side member is indicated.

3. Cut off the front section of the original front side member clearing aligning hole.

4. Use a hammer and dolly to rework the cut end of the original front side member for the service part to fit snugly over the rail.

5. Align and clamp service part in proper location.

6. Weld as shown.

CAUTION:
^ Plug and seam welding must be done with a MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welder. Do not use a gas (oxy-acetylene) weld.

^ Use an air-saw to cut the side member.

^ While grinding, cutting or welding panels, place protective covers over adjacent painted surfaces, engine and surrounding areas to protect them from the flame or metal chips.

7. Apply an anti-corrosive agent to welded parts.

8. Apply anti-corrosive wax to the inside of the front side member.
