SERVICE INFORMATION
Some 1987 Stanza vehicles may have warped hood louver assemblies. Use the following Service Procedure to correct the shape of the louver.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
FIGURE 1 - HOOD LOUVER:
1. Remove the hood louver by removing the three nuts and plastic spacers on the underside of the hood (Figure 1).
FIGURE 2 - HEAT APPLICATION:
2. Heat the bottom of the louver evenly to 80~ - 104~F (30~ - 40~C) with a heat gun (Figure 2).
WARNING: Cotton gloves should be worn when handling the hot louver.
CAUTION: To avoid paint damage, do not apply excessive or uneven heat.
FIGURE 3 - LOUVER CORRECTION PROCEDURE:
3. The louver should return to it original shape when heated evenly. If necessary, push lightly on the center mounting stud (Figure 3).

4. If the louver is still warped, reform with gloved hands as shown in Figure 4.
FIGURE 5 - SHOULDER POSITIONING:
5. Position the louver on the hood correctly (see Figure 5). Install a spacer and a nut on the center stud and hand tighten only.
CAUTION: Make sure the stud shoulder is inserted through the hood outer panel to prevent re-occurring warping.
6. Install outer spacers and nuts hand tight. Press down on the louver assembly and move it slightly to make sure the shoulder of the outer studs are through the hood panel before tightening outer nuts.
7. Hold the louver assembly in place while tightening nuts in the sequence and to the specification below.
CAUTION: Over or under torque may also cause warping.
^ TORQUE SEQUENCE: Center stud first, then outer studs.
^ TORQUE SPECIFICATION: 2.2-2.9 ft.lbs. (0.3-0.4 kg-m, 3-4 N-m)
