Interior Trim - Roof Side Garnish Warped or Wavy

ROOF SIDE GARNISH
APPLIED MODEL: 1987 Stanza equipped with sun roof (1/86 thru 5/86 Production)
ROOF SIDE GARNISH:
Some 1987 Stanza Sedan vehicles equipped with a sun roof and built before 6/86 production may have a roof side garnish that is warped or wavy. This incident is caused by too much headliner tension and is most noticeable on vehicles in high ambient temperature areas. Use the following Parts Information and Service Procedure to repair incident vehicles.

The new style clips are silver in color. The former style clips are black in color.
Retaining Clip Locations:
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Visually inspect the left and right roof side garnishes for warpage, waviness or loose retaining clips.
2. If the warpage is minimal or the retaining clips do not hold it tight, replace the clips with longer clips (P/N 76932-17E10) as follows:
A. Starting at the forward end of the garnish, carefully pry out the retaining clips with a small screwdriver and gently pull the garnish away from the headliner.
NOTE: The roof garnish fits under the "B" pillar garnish and slides inside the "C" pillar garnish.
CAUTION: Do not bend the roof side garnish or damage the tabs at the "C" pillar end.
New Metal Clips:
B. Remove the 6 retaining clips and install the longer (silver) clips (P/N 76932-17E10).
C. Proceed to Step 4 to reinstall the garnish.
3. If the roof side garnish is warped or wavy, replace the incident garnish with the new parts (see Parts Information) as follows:
NOTE: The retaining clips are included with the new parts. Do not order new clips when replacing the garnish assembly.
A. Remove the roof side garnish as described in Step 2A.
B. Install the new garnish assembly as described in Step 4.

4. To install the roof side garnish:
A. Slide the roof garnish under the "C" pillar garnish and engage the tabs.
B. Position the garnish under the "B" pillar garnish and secure the 6 retaining clips.
