Service Information
Some vehicles with the RS5F50A manual transmission, produced prior to September, 1987, may exhibit a grind or clash when shifting into reverse gear. The input shaft braking mechanism described in this bulletin has been installed on the applied models produced after September, 1987 to reduce the clashing of reverse gear upon selection. The Pulsar SE and Stanza Wagon 2WD are the only exceptions to this production date. As they have not received the input shaft braking mechanism, any 1988 Pulsar SE (M/T) or 1986-88 Stanza Wagon 2WD (M/T) may exhibit reverse gear grinding. The input shaft braking countermeasure may be installed on vehicles with the RS5F50A manual transmission produced prior to September, 1987 if there is customer complaint of reverse gear grinding. (The input shaft braking countermeasure may be applied to any 1988 Pulsar SE or 1986-88 Stanza Wagon 2WD with a manual transmission.) The following pages describe the procedure for disassembly and re-assembly of the input shaft braking mechanism.
