SERVICE INFORMATION

Some 1987 Stanza M/T vehicles built within the Affected VIN Range above may exhibit a "hammering" or knocking noise during clutch engagement. This incident usually occurs during light to moderate acceleration from a stop. The noise is audible and a vibration can be felt on the floor.

Some customers may complain of a knocking noise coming from the engine compartment or of a clutch judder. If the knocking occurs during clutch engagement from a stop, and can be felt by one's foot on the floor, the drive shafts are the most likely cause. Replacing the drive shaft assemblies with the service parts listed in this bulletin should correct this incident.

NOTE: This incident is different from clutch judder. Clutch judder is felt more in the steering wheel, seats and overall body shake during clutch engagement. Replacing the drive shafts will not remedy clutch judder incidents. Please use normal clutch judder diagnostic procedures for these cases.
