SERVICE INFORMATION
Cartridge type shock absorbers are now available as service replacement parts for the Applied Models listed above. These shock absorbers are designed specifically for use with the rear strut suspension assemblies used on these models (Figure 1).
FEATURES
^ The oil-filled design (with outer tube) makes it easier to replace component parts than on the previously used design.
^ Draining air from the shock absorber is unnecessary.
^ Metering and refilling oil are eliminated.
^ The new design permits easier handling, decreasing service repair time.
REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
1. Remove and disassemble the strut assembly. Refer to Section RA of the applicable Service Manual.
2. After removing the shock absorber, completely drain all the old oil, then clean the inside of the outer strut tube.
3. Check the component part number to see that it is the correct type specified for the vehicle (see the Parts Information chart on page RA-9).

4. Carefully insert the cartridge type shock absorber into the outer strut tube (Figure 2). Do not drop the assembly into the tube.

5. Tighten gland packing to the following torque (Figure 3):
51-94 ft.lbs. (69-127 N-m, 7-13 kg-m)
6. Complete assembly of the strut assembly onto the vehicle. Refer to Section RA of the appropriate Service Manual.
