COMBINATION SWITCH REPLACEMENT CAUTION
APPLIED MODELS:
All 1993 and 1994 Altima equipped with SRS airbag
SERVICE INFORMATION:
Use caution when replacing the combination switch on any Altima vehicle. On re-assembly, make sure all connectors are re-connected correctly. An incorrect connection could lead to an unintended deployment of the airbag. Specifically, do not interchange connector E1 15 (turn signal circuit) with connector A5 (SRS Airbag circuit). Connector E1 15 connects into the turn signal switch on the combination switch. Connector A5 connects into the spiral cable for the SRS Airbag system.
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
As you disassemble the steering wheel and column in preparation for replacement of the combination switch, use tape markers to identify where each connector matches up. On reconnection, match all connectors correctly. In particular, if the SRS airbag spiral cable and module are disconnected during the repair, make sure they do not get connected into the combination switch. The plastic connector housing for connector E1 15 is white. This connector plugs into the turn signal switch. Connector A5 is yellow, (however it may have a black rubber protector). A5 plugs into the SRS spiral cable. To be sure, you can follow the wires from connector A5. About a foot from the spiral cable, look for yellow sheathing.
