1993-96 ALTIMA SQUEAK AND RATTLE REPAIR

APPLIED VEHICLE:
1993-1996 Altima (U13)

SERVICE INFORMATION

Use the following procedures to repair a 1993-96 Altima with any of the types of noises listed below:

1. Front seat head rest rattle while driving at low speeds.

2. Rear seat back rattle when driving at low speeds.

3. "B" pillar squeak when driving at low speeds.

4. Door striker creak when accelerating or decelerating.

5. Center instrument panel "buzz" when driving at low speeds.

6. Rattle behind glove box while driving.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Front Seat Head Rest Rattle While Driving at Low Speeds

Remove the headrest from the seat back. Bend the legs outward 2-3 millimeters as shown in Figure 1, then reinstall the headrest into the seat back.

2. Rear Seat Back Rattle When Driving at Low Speeds

Remove the rear seat back. There are three wire "hooks" at the rear of the seat back which slide into receivers in the vehicle body panel. Wrap these hooks with foam tape, then re-install the seat back. Refer to Figure 2 for details.

3. B" Pillar Squeak When Driving at Low Speeds

Remove the "B" pillar garnish. Add anti-squeak tape to the area where the seat belt slide touches the "B" pillar. Use just enough tape to resolve the incident. Using too much tape may cause the tape to roll. Re-install the garnish. Make sure no tape is visible after the repair is completed.

4. Door Striker Creak When Accelerating or Decelerating

This creak occurs in the middle of the "B" pillar when the vehicle starts and stops. If the door striker is metal without a plastic coating, replace it with a plastic coated part, P/N 80570-70N00. (The part number does not change).

5. Center Instrument Panel Buzz When Driving at Low Speeds

Touch the radio bezel and note any change in the noise. If the noise decreases or stops, remove the radio bezel and add anti-squeak tape where the radio bezel touches the instrument panel.

6. Rattle Behind Glove Box While Driving

Remove the glove box and install a piece of foam between the right face vent duct and the dash cross beam. Tighten the right face vent duct mounting screw. Re-install the glove box.
