Prepare For Installation

Prepare for Installation

1. Make sure the exposed wheel house and fender lip are clean. Use a grinding disc and Scotch Brite pad to remove all corrosion. You must completely remove all red rust (see Figures 6 and 7).

2. Use a hammer and dolly to straighten and correct all mating flanges.

3. Check severity of corrosion damage on outer wheel house. If perforation exists, apply Fusor EZ plastic body repair adhesive (Lord stock # 101EZ) and Fusor structural SMC/fiberglass patch kit (Lord stock # 706) to the affected areas (see Figures 8 and 9).

NOTE: Cut patch(s) to desired size and apply adhesive to both sides of the patch.

4. Spray anti-corrosion primer (DuPont 215S) on to the cleaned surface the outer wheel house. (see Figure 10).

5. Use an air grinder to grind the remaining quarter panel at the cut line to smooth out the edges.

6. Grind all surfaces to be bonded on the remaining quarter panel (see Figure 11). Grind the surface on the exposed wheel house lip to remove any over-spray of anti-corrosion primer in this area (see Figure 12).

7. Use a Scotch Brite pad on the service part to lightly HAND scuff surfaces to be bonded (see Figure 13).

IMPORTANT: 1. Do not remove the E-coat from the service part. 2. Do not use an air grinder or grinding disc.

8. Wipe away all sanding debris with a clean, lint free cloth.

CAUTION: Do not over-tighten clamps. Over tightening could reduce adhesion strength and permanently distort quarter panel and/or service part.

9. Before applying adhesive, pre-fit all parts for alignment. Use vise grips and C-clamps to determine clamping location (see figure 14).

10. Check service part for gap and overall fit.

11. Remove all clamps and service part.

12. Dispense Fusor metal bonding adhesive (Lord stock # 108) until both components flow from the tip of the cartridge to insure proper ratio (see Figure 15).

13. Cut two notches from the bonder mixing tip.

14. Connect mixing tip to metal bonder tube and run out a 6" (minimum) mixing tips length for proper mixture (see Figure 16). For further details, see Lord Corporation Fusor metal bonding adhesive instructions.

15. Generously apply metal bonder bead to the edges of the service part only (see Figure 17).

NOTE: Correct bead size should be approximately 3/8" thick.
