SERVICE INFORMATION

Use this bulletin to service a 1996-97 Maxima air conditioning system which exhibits poor cooling and/or unstable vent outlet temperatures as described below.

When driving at a speed above 60 MPH (engine speed above 3000 RPM) in ambient temperatures between 40°F and 68°F, the air from the vents may become warm and uncomfortable. Air conditioning system operation returns to normal when the vehicle is driven at varying slower speeds or comes to a stop.

These conditions may be caused by a low refrigerant charge or a slow acting swash plate in the compressor.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Evacuate and recharge the A/C system and/or replace the compressor with the countermeasure unit. Refer to the Repair Flow Chart for the diagnostic procedure.

CAUTION: When changing the compressor, take special care in removing and reinstalling the refrigerant lines as the 0-ring seals can be easily damaged.
