SERVICE INFORMATION
If the interior of a 1995-97 Maxima has an objectionable odor (like cat urine or ammonia) when the vehicle is parked with windows closed under high temperature and/or humidity conditions, the cause may be the door finishers.

This odor is NOT the new car smell typical of all new vehicles.

A countermeasure door finisher set is available to resolve this incident.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. To duplicate the incident, park the car in the sun with the windows closed.

2. After approximately 2 hours, open the doors and smell the door finishers.

3. If the odor is stronger at the door finishers than other areas of the interior, replace all four as a set. See the service manual (1995 page BF-17; 1996 page BT-16; 1997 page BT-19) for removal and installation procedures.
