Service Procedure
WARNING:This procedure requires removal and reinstallation of the driver's air bag module. BEFORE STARTING THIS PROCEDURE refer to the "Precautions for SRS "Air Bag" Service" in the "RS" section of the appropriate Service Manual.
NOTE:
This procedure does not require replacement of the driver's air bag.
NOTE:
It is not necessary to remove the steering wheel to perform this procedure.
1. Record the radio presets for reprogramming after the procedure.
2. Turn the ignition switch off, disconnect both battery cables and wait for at least three (3) minutes before going to step 3.
3. Remove the lower lid from the bottom of the steering wheel and disconnect the yellow air bag module connector.
4. Remove the right and left side lids from the steering wheel. Using a Tamper Resistant TORX (Size T50) tool (Kent Moore P/N J 38219), remove the left and right side special bolts. Then remove the driver's air bag module.

5. Starting with the left side of the wheel, loosen the two horn plate bolts (TORX Size T50). See Figure 1 for detail. Then lift off the upper and lower horn plates with the bolts.

6. Using Figure 2 for reference, replace the two horn springs and two spring insulators with the ones listed in the Parts Information section of this bulletin.
7. Apply Loctite [TM] # 2430 or equivalent to the two horn plate bolts. Install the bolts and the horn plates to the steering wheel. Torque: 5.4 - 6.1 ft-lb (75-85 kg-cm).
8. Repeat steps 5 through 7 for the right side of the wheel.
9. Reinstall the driver's air bag with new special bolts from the Parts Information section of this bulletin. Torque: 14 - 18 ft-lb (1.5 - 2.5 kg-m). Reconnect the air bag harness.
CAUTION:
Always use new special bolts. Never reuse the removed bolts.
10. Reinstall steering wheel lower and side lids removed in steps 2 and 3.
11. Verify operation of the horn.
12. Turn ignition switch on and ensure the SRS "Air Bag" light goes off after seven seconds.
13. Reprogram radio presets.
