INTRODUCTION

Some 2002 model year Nissan Maxima vehicles contain odometers that are recording the distance traveled in kilometers instead of miles. As a result, the current odometer reading on these vehicles indicate a higher number than the actual miles traveled. To correct this condition, Nissan has initiated a Voluntary Service Campaign to replace the odometer with one showing the correct mileage.

IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

Nissan has assigned identification number P1167 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communications and documentation of any nature dealing with this campaign.

NUMBER OF VEHICLES POTENTIALLY AFFECTED

The number of vehicles affected is approximately 850

DEALER RESPONSIBILITY

It is the dealer's responsibility to check Service Comm for the campaign status on each vehicle falling within the range of this Voluntary Service Campaign that enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in a dealer's inventory.

If, upon completion of the inspection procedure, it is determined that a replacement odometer is required, it is the dealer's responsibility to:

^ Ensure the vehicle is not driven between the time the old odometer is removed/order is placed for a replacement odometer and the replacement odometer is installed Provide alternate transportation to the owner, if requested

SPECIAL CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE FEATURES

Car Rental Assistance is available upon owner request if a replacement odometer is required to complete the campaign repair. Refer to the Claims Information section of this bulletin for additional information related to Car Rental Assistance.
