Steering Wheel: Description and Operation

System Description

NOTE: The heated steering system will operate ONLY when the steering wheel surface is below approximately 20°C (68°F). If the weather is warm enough, the heated steering system may not turn ON giving the appearance that the system does not operate.

Power is supplied at all times
^ through 10A fuse (No. 30, located in the fuse and fusible link box)
^ to heated steering relay terminals 1 and 3.

With the ignition switch in the ON or START position, power is supplied
^ through 10A fuse [No. 12, located in the fuse block (J/B)]
^ to heated steering wheel switch terminal 1.

Ground is supplied
^ to heated steering wheel switch terminal 6
^ to combination switch (heated steering) terminal 2
^ through grounds M57, M61 and M79.

When the heated steering wheel switch is pressed, ground is supplied
^ to heated steering relay terminal 2
^ through heated steering wheel switch terminal 2
^ through heated steering wheel switch terminal 6
^ through grounds M57, M61 and M79.

Then the heated steering relay is energized and power is supplied
^ from heated steering relay terminal 5
^ to combination switch (heated steering) terminal 1.

With power and ground supplied, the heated steering system will operate. The heated steering system will turn OFF when the steering wheel temperature reaches approximately 30°C (86°F). Heated steering system operation can also be cancelled by pressing the heated steering wheel switch.
