Service Procedure

Install Exhaust Manifold Bracket

1. Raise the vehicle so you can see the lower part of the exhaust manifold.

2. Install the bracket stud into the existing threaded hole on the exhaust manifold as shown in Figure 1.

^ The bracket stud is included in the Bracket Kit listed in the Parts Information.

NOTE:
If needed, use a 10 mm x 1.5 tap to clean the threaded hole before installing the Bracket Stud.

^ Make sure to put a light lubricating oil on the tap threads and the hole threads.

3. Torque the bracket stud to 11.3 Nm (1.15 Kg-m, 100 in-lb)*

^ Use special tool J-49062 and a torque wrench.

*NOTE:
The above torque values have already been adjusted to compensate for the length of the J-49062 tool when used with a torque wrench of 11 to 15 inches in length.

4. From the Bracket Kit, get the solid spacer and put it on the stud as shown in Figure 4.

5. Install the bracket as shown in Figure 5 and 6.

^ The end of the bracket with the oval hole goes on the stud.

6. Install the 14 mm bolt; finger tight only.

7. Install the large spacer (the one with the spring inside) on the stud.

^ Make sure the spacer is installed correctly (see Figure 7 and 8).

8. Install the 12 mm nut on the stud.

^ Thread it on until it touches the spacer but don't tighten it yet.

9. Torque the 14 mm bolt to:

48 Nm (4.9 kg-m, 35 ft-lb)

10. Torque the 12 mm nut to:

16 Nm (1.6 kg-m, 11 ft-lb)*

^ Use special tool J-49063 and a torque wrench.

*NOTE:
The above torque values have already been adjusted to compensate for the length of the J-49063 tool when used with a torque wrench of 11 to 15 inches in length.

Install the Exhaust Manifold/Catalytic Converter Heat Shield
(Only for vehicles with more than 800 miles on the odometer.)

1. Remove the 3 mounting screws.

^ Discard the old screws, do not reuse.

2. Remove the old heat shield / lower cover and install the new one.

^ Use new screws included in the Heat Shield Kit listed in the Parts Information.

^ Torque the new screws to 5.8 Nm (0.59 kg-m, 51 in-lb).
