Interior - Driver Seat Lumbar Support Inoperative

IF YOU CONFIRM

The power lumber support on the driver seat is inoperative,

ACTION

Replace the lumber support assembly.

Do not replace the entire seat back for this incident.

Submit a Primary Part (PP) type line claim using the claims coding table.

IMPORTANT:
The purpose of "ACTIONS" (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair.

SERVICE PROCEDURE





1. Write down the radio station presets.

2. Move / adjust the driver seat bottom and seatback to the full forward positions.

3. Disconnect both battery cables, negative cable first.

4. Remove the driver seatback finisher as follows:





NOTE:
The seatback finisher is held on with:

^ 2 top hooks.

^ 4 side hooks

^ 2 bottom clips (do not reuse)

a. Insert your fingers into the upper sides of the finisher.

b. Push in on the side hooks to release them.

c. Then carefully pull / push down at the top to release the top hooks.





d. Reach in from the top and use a trim tool to carefully snap loose the lower clips.

NOTE:
Do not reuse the lower clips. New clips are included in the repair kit.





5. Remove the seat trim side hooks.

6. Release the seat trim center strap.





7. Disconnect the 3 air bag harness mounting clips.

^ Use needle noise pliers to release the clips.

8. Disconnect the lumbar motor harness connector.





9. Remove the 2 side airbag mounting nuts.

^ Side air bag is on the left side of the seat.

^ Do not use a power tool on these nuts.

Discard these nuts: DO NOT REUSE. New nuts are included in the repair kit.





10. Carefully move the side air bag away from the seatback frame.

^ Don't damage the mounting stud threads.





11. Locate and remove the 2 mounting screws on the left side of the lumbar support assembly.

^ Move the seat trim, seat foam, and side air bag to the left,

^ Use a T30 Torx(R) bit and a wrench to turn the bit.





12. Locate and remove the 2 mounting screws on the right side of the lumbar support assembly.

^ Move the seat trim and seat foam to the right;

^ Use a T30 Torx(R) bit and a wrench to turn the bit.





13. Remove the lumbar support assembly.

14. Install the new lumbar support assembly in reverse order. During reassembly:





^ Make sure the mounting bracket tabs for the lumbar support assembly are installed as shown.

^ Right side shown; left side is the same.

IMPORTANT:
When reinstalling the side air bag, make sure the module is fully inside the white cloth sleeve. Also, make sure the sleeve is smooth and not "bunched".

^ Do not reuse the old side air bag mounting nuts. Make sure to use the new nuts included in the repair kit.

^ Torque the side air bag mounting nuts to: 7.3 N.m (0.74 kg-m, 65 in-lb)

15. Connect the battery cables, positive cable first.

16. Operate the lumbar support. Make sure it is working correctly.

17. Reset the radio station presets.

18. Reset the sunroof memory as follows:

a. From any sunroof position (full open, partially open, closed, partially vented, and vented), repeatedly push the sunroof tilt switch to the forward (CLOSE) position until the sunroof is fully closed.

b. Push and hold the tilt switch forward (CLOSE) for more than 2 seconds.

c. The sunroof should now operate normally.

NOTE:
The above procedure must be performed any time the battery is disconnected.
