Service Procedure
SERVICE PROCEDURENOTE:
Use protective covers as needed for interior surfaces while performing this procedure.
1. Write down the radio station presets.
2. If equipped - write down the following customer settings for the ATC (Automatic Temperature Control) system. (Refer to section HAG in the Service Manual as needed):
^ Temperature Setting Trimmer
^ Inlet Port Memory Function
3. Disconnect both battery cables (negative cable first).
IMPORTANT:
Follow all cautions, warnings, and notes in the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) when working on or near a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), such as an airbag.
4. Remove the front map lamp (if equipped):
^ Use a plastic trim tool as needed.
a. Snap loose and remove the lens.
b. Remove the housing.
c. Disconnect the electrical connector.
5. Remove the rear view mirror:
a. Snap loose and remove the finisher that covers the screw.
b. Remove 1 screw.
6. Remove the sun visors (driver and passenger side).
^ Two screws on each hinge.
7. Remove the sun vision support clips (driver and passenger side).
^ Twist the support clip counterclockwise to remove.
8. Remove the 4 assist grips (one above each side door).
9. Remove the passenger side front seat belt shoulder anchor:
a. Snap loose and remove the cover.
^ Use a plastic trim tool as needed.
b. Remove the bolt.
10. Remove the passenger side rear seat belt shoulder anchor:
a. Open the cover.
b. Remove the Bolt.
11. Partially remove the door seal from the following doors:
^ Passenger side front and rear doors.
^ Driver side rear door.
Removal of seal for driver's door is not needed.
Remove seal from top, front, and rear of door opening down to the kick plates.
12. Snap loose and remove the passenger side A-pillar finisher.
CAUTION:
Make sure to remove as follows to avoid damage to the windshield.
a. Carefully pull to snap loose the top and bottom clips.
^ Do Not pull back on the top of the finisher.
b. Carefully and gently wiggle and pull the finisher up to remove.
13. Remove passenger side upper B-pillar finisher as follows:
a. Snap loose and remove the SRS emblem.
b. Remove bolt behind emblem.
C. Snap loose the top of the lower B-pillar finisher.
NOTE:
It is not necessary to remove the entire lower B-pillar finisher, just snap it loose at the top.
d. Snap loose and remove the upper B-pillar finisher.
14. Fold down the rear seat and slide it forward.
15. Remove the seal from the back door as follows:
a. First, note the location of the white mark on the seal at the top center of the door.
b. Make a matching mark on the body.
c. Remove the door seal.
NOTE:
The marks need to be aligned when reinstalling the door seal.
16. Remove the luggage rear plate as follows:
a. Remove the 2 rope hooks (cargo hooks). See Figure 14.
b. Use a plastic trim tool to snap it loose at the lower corners.
C. Pull UP to snap loose the top clips and remove.
17. Snap loose the luggage side lower finisher RH as follows:
a. Remove the 2 finisher clips (see Figure 15).
b. Snap the finisher loose.
NOTE:
The lower finisher does not need to be completely removed. Just snap it loose so the upper finisher can be removed.
18. Snap loose and remove the luggage side upper finisher RH.
19. Remove the driver side rear seat belt shoulder anchors shown in Figure 16.
^ Open the bolt covers and remove the bolts.
20. Snap loose the luggage side lower finisher LH as follows:
a. Remove the 2 finisher clips (see Figure 18).
b. Snap the finisher loose.
NOTE:The
lower finisher does not need to be completely removed.
Just snap it loose so the upper finisher can be removed.
21. Snap loose and remove the luggage side upper finisher LH.
22. At the rear of the headlining remove the 3 clips shown in Figure 20.
23. Remove the center room lamp as follows.
a. Snap loose and remove the lens.
b. Remove the 2 screws.
C. Disconnect the electrical connector.
24. Position the front passenger seat-back as far forward as possible.
25. Carefully lower the headlining and support it on the vehicle seats.
26. Remove the passenger side curtain air bag module as follows:
a. Release 2 antenna harness clips from the module.
a. Disconnect electrical connector.
C. Remove 12 bolts.
27. Carefully open the box and remove the new side curtain air bag module.
^ The original box for the new side curtain air bag is needed to ship the old air bag back to NNA.
^ The box must be in "Like New" condition for return shipment.
^ Any damage to the box will make it unusable.
28. Install the new side curtain air bag module into the vehicle as follows:
a. Install the 12 bolts and torque in the order shown in Figure 25. Bolt torque - 10.8 Nm (1.1 k-gm, 8 ft-lb).
b. Connect the 2 antenna harness clips and make sure the antenna harness is routed correctly.
c. Connect the electrical connector and make sure it is locked.
29. Reinstall all removed parts in reverse order.
NOTE:
^ Make sure the marks for the rear door seal are aligned.
^ Bolt torque for all shoulder belt upper anchors is 49.0 Nm (5.0 k-m, 36 ft-lb).
^ Make sure assist grips are positioned so the small slits in the bolt covers are positioned UP.
30. Reconnect the battery cables, positive cable first.
31. Reset the clock and the radio station presets.
32. Make sure map lamp and room lamp work.
33. Turn the ignition from OFF to ON. Make sure the air bag warning lamp (on the instrument panel) turns ON and then goes OFF after about 7 seconds.
34. If equipped, perform power window initialization as follows:
a. Turn ignition switch ON.
b. Open the window to its full down position by operating the power window switch.
c. Move the power window switch in the up direction (auto close position) and hold. Keep holding the switch even when the window is completely closed, and then release after 4 seconds.
35. If equipped, reset the ATC Temperature Setting Trimmer and Inlet Port Memory Function.
^ Refer to section HAG in the Service Manual as needed.
36. Return the removed (old / non-deployed) curtain air bag module to Nissan.
^ Refer to Curtain Air Bag Module Return Instructions above.
