Service Procedure

NOTE:
^ Photos in this procedure are for the left side (driver side) door.

^ The right side (passenger side) door is a mirror image.

^ Make sure to perform this procedure on both rear side doors.





1. Remove 2 screws from the door panel.

^ One in the door handle.

^ One in the hook.





2. Unsnap the door finisher clips and remove the door finisher.

3. Disconnect the power window switch connector.

4. Set the door finisher out of the way in a clean area.





5. Remove the rear half of the plastic sealing screen.

^ Use a sharp cutting tool to cut the butyl-tape as you pull the sealing screen.





^ The sealing screen only needs to be removed half way.





6. Remove the rubber grommet shown in Figure 5.





7. Completely loosen the size 30 Torx(R) bolt

^ This bolt is for the door handle escutcheon.

^ The bolt will not fall out. It is held in place with a retainer, even when it is completely loose.





8. Remove the door handle escutcheon as follows.

a. Make sure the Torx(R) bolt (Step 7) is completely loose.

b. Use a "hook" tool to "pull back" on the Torx(R) bolt.

c. Pull the escutcheon to remove it.





9. Remove the door handle as follows.

a. Push/move the handle rearward.

^ You will feel it snap out of place.





b. Pull out on the handle.

^ Discard the handle - use a new one for reassembly.





10. Remove the front and rear gaskets.

^ Discard the gaskets - use new ones for reassembly.





11. Push the handle bracket rearward to unclip it from the metal door skin.

12. Remove the handle bracket from the door.





a. Push the handle bracket toward the rear and maneuver it in front of the window channel (see Figure 12).

b. Pull the handle bracket from the door.





^ Handle bracket removed from the door (see Figure 13).





13. Unclip the cable from the handle bracket.





14. Slide the cable end from the handle bracket.

NOTE:
Render the old handle bracket unusable and discard it.

15. Attach the cable to the new handle bracket in reverse order (Step 14 and then Step 13).

16. Install the new handle bracket into the door and reinstall all other parts in reverse order.





^ When installing, loop the cable in front of the handle bracket as shown.





^ Make sure to use the new gaskets.





^ Make sure to use the new handle.
