Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Service Procedure

1. Pull back the carpet at the front left wheel well area (Figure 1).

^ Refer to the appropriate section in the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for disassembly procedure as needed.

2. Continually run a lot of water (for example, from a garden hose without a nozzle) down the windshield into the driver side cowl area.

3. Check for water entering the driver floor area.

^ If water is seen coming in at location "A" in Figure 1, go to Step 4, then perform PROCEDURE "A".

^ If water is seen coming in at location "B" in Figure 1, go to Step 4, then perform PROCEDURE "B".

NOTE:
Leave this area disassembled (to test for leaks after repairs).

^ If none found in either area, this TSB does not apply. Refer back to ASIST for further diagnosis.

4. Check the two Main-to-Body harness connectors for corrosion (see Figure 1).

^ If corrosion is found, refer to NTB09-017 for further repairs in addition to this bulletin.

PROCEDURE "A"

1. Remove the left front fender. Refer to the appropriate section in the ESM for removal procedure as needed.

2. Locate the two oval holes in the body below the lower end of the "a" pillar (Figure 2).

3. Look inside the lower oval hole and identify the seam of the body panels, and the small hole (Figure 3).

4. Clean the seam's surface and inside the hole as stated in the sealer manufacturer's instructions.

5. Apply sealer into and along the entire seam, and inside the small hole.

6. Allow the sealer to cure as stated in the manufacturer's instructions.

IMPORTANT:
Recheck for leaks by pouring water in the area just sealed.

7. If ok, reassemble the vehicle.

PROCEDURE "B"

1. Remove the front wiper drive assembly (Figure 4). Refer to the appropriate section of the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for removal procedure as needed.

2. Locate the seam at the bottom of the left cowl drain (Figure 5).

3. Clean the seam's surface as stated in the sealer manufacturer's instructions.

4. Apply sealer into and along the open seam.

NOTE:
The large square hole behind the seam is a cowl drain. Be sure not to make the bead too tall so as not to restrict water flow.

5. Allow the sealer to cure as stated in the manufacturer's instructions.

IMPORTANT:
Recheck for leaks by pouring water in the area just sealed.

6. If ok, reassemble the vehicle.
