IF YOU CONFIRM
Knock, rattle, or click noise coming from the steering column intermediate shaft,
^ When driving on rough or dirt roads,
^ With the vehicle parked and turning the steering wheel back and forth with small quick movements.
NOTE:
^ If necessary, confirm noise location using chassis ears or other noise locating tool.
^ Make sure the noise is coming from the steering column intermediate shaft. If it is not, this bulletin does not apply. Refer to ASIST for further diagnostic information.
^ This incident, if it should occur, will not affect steering effort or steering ability.
ACTION
Replace the steering column intermediate shaft with the one listed in the Parts Information.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Replace the steering column intermediate shaft (see Figure 1).
^ Refer to Steering Column in section PS of the Service Manual for replacement information.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
^ Do not remove the entire steering column.
^ Perform only the steps in the Service Manual that are needed for the removal of only the intermediate shaft.
^ Keep the front wheels and steering wheel in a straight ahead position while replacing the intermediate shaft. This will help avoid having to re-center the steering wheel after replacement.
