Service Procedure

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Remove Seat Tracks

1. Write down all radio station presets.

2. Raise the seat to the full up position (if lift type seat).

a. Recline the seatback close to the full forward position.

b. Remove the headrest.

3. Remove the incident seat from the vehicle.

^ For seat removal procedure, refer to the appropriate section of the Electronic Service Manual (ESM).

^ When removing the seat from the vehicle, have it adjusted close to the full forward position.

^ If the seat cannot be moved fore / aft in order to access the seat bolts, depress both track's lock release levers. a in Figure 9 above, shows the inner track lock release lever. Outer track lock release lever similar.

NOTE:
> Before seat removal, turn off the ignition switch, disconnect both battery cables (negative cable first), and then wait at least three (3) minutes.

> When removing and installing, use suitable covering to protect the vehicle from damage.

> Do not use the "towel bar" handle (seat adjuster handle for fore / aft adjustment) to lift the seat.

> Do not lay the seat on the rear of the seatback. This will damage the seat finishers.

> Perform seat repairs in a clean work area, such as a work bench with suitable covering.

CAUTION:
The front passenger seat is equipped with an Occupant Detection System sensor and control module. Do not disassemble the front passenger seat cushion assembly or remove the trim as this will affect the Occupant Detection System's calibration.

4. Remove the lifter lever (if equipped) and reclining lever (see Figure 2).

^ To access the lever screws, remove the lever covers with a suitable tool.

5. Remove the seat cushion outer finisher (see Figure 3).

NOTE:
Figure 3 shows a lift type seat. Non-lift seat similar.

a. Lift type seat only: remove the screw at "a" in Figure 3.

b. Grab at "b" and carefully pull the finisher away from the seat to unfasten the two front clips (see "1" in Figure 3).

c. Unfasten the rear clips labeled "2" by carefully pulling the finisher away from the seat at "c1", and then "c2".

6. For lift type seats only: remove the lower outer finisher (see Figure 4).

a. Remove the screw at the rear of the lower finisher

^ See "a" for screw location in Figure 5.

^ The screw is accessed from the inner rear of the seat track.

b. Grab the lower finisher below both clips, and then carefully pull away from the seat (see "b" in Figure 4).

7. For lift type seats only: remove the inner track inside finisher (see Figure 5).

^ The finisher is secured by one screw (see a in Figure 5)

CAUTION:
For passenger seats only: do not disassemble the seat cushion fabric, its trim, or its attachments (see CAUTION below for more detail).

CAUTION:
The front passenger seat is equipped with an Occupant Detection System sensor and control module. Do not disassemble the front passenger seat cushion assembly or remove the trim as this will affect the Occupant Detection System's calibration.

8. Remove the outer handle mounting bracket assembly by carefully removing its rivet ("a") with a suitable tool (see Figure 6).

NOTE:
With most of the rivet head removed, it can then be carefully tapped out with a hammer and punch.

CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the seat frame.

9. For non-lift seats only: Detach the rear of the inside inner finisher to access one of the inner track mounting nuts (see Figure 7).

^ Push the clip through from the outside of the frame, detaching it from the seat frame (see "1" in Figure 7).

^ Slightly pull out the finisher to access the rear most nut (see "2" in Figure 7).

10. Remove the inner and outer tracks by removing their four (4) mounting nuts (no picture shown).

11. Remove the towel bar ("a") and both mounting bracket sub-assemblies (brackets; "b") together (see Figure 8).

NOTE:
The inner bracket is not shown in Figure 8.

^ Unhook the outer holder spring ("c") from the seat frame while removing the towel bar and both brackets (see Figure 8).

Install Service Kit

Install Inner Track Assembly

1. Mount the inner track assembly onto the frame (see Figure 9).

^ Make sure the lock release lever ("a") is pointing toward the inside of the seat.

^ The inner track's locator pin ("b") is at the rear of the seat.

2. Position the inner bracket (see "c" in Figure 9).

^ Make sure the inner bracket's arm ("c") is on top of the lock release lever.

3. Install, but do not tighten, the four (4) inner track mounting nuts ("d") at locations shown in Figure 9.

NOTE:
Do not use the special nut on either seat track (see #7 in Figure 1).

Install Outer Track Assembly

1. Mount the outer track assembly onto the frame (see Figure 10).

^ Make sure the lock release lever is facing toward the inside of the seat (not shown in Figure 10).

2. Install, but do not tighten, the four (4) inner track mounting nuts ("a") shown in Figure 10.

NOTE:
Do not use the special nut on either seat track (see #7 in Figure 1).

Track Spacing Adjustment

1. Move both the inner and outer tracks as far forward as their rivet dowels and studs will allow.

^ Refer to "e" in Figure 9 above for inner track rivet dowel location.

^ Refer to "b" in Figure 10 above for outer track rivet dowel location.

2. Adjust the spacing between both tracks front and rear as equal as possible (see Figure 11).

^ Secure finger tight both inner and outer track mounting nuts.

3. Torque all track nuts: 21.6 Nm (2.2 kg-m, 16 ft lb).

Attach Outer Handle Mounting Bracket Assembly

1. Attach the outer bracket to the seat frame with the special bolt ("a") and special nut (see Figure 12).

^ Add grease to the shoulder of the bolt only, before installation.

^ Make sure the outer bracket's arm ("b") is on top of the lock release lever.

NOTE:
The special nut must be used for outer bracket attachment only. Do not use it on either seat track (see #7 in Figure 1).

2. Torque the bolt and nut: 24.5 Nm (2.5 kg-m, 18 ft lb).

3. Attach the outer holder spring (spring) as shown in Figure 13).

a. Insert the spring into the hole ("a") at the rear of the bracket.

b. Hook the spring to the tab ("b") on the bracket.

c. Insert the spring in the slotted hole ("c") on the frame.

4. Apply Nissan Silicone Grease #999MP-AB002 or equivalent to all moving parts of the inner and outer brackets and their springs.

^ See the PARTS INFORMATION section on how to obtain this product.

5. Attach the towel bar to the brackets (see Figure 14).

a. Insert the towel bar ("a") into both brackets where noted ("b") in Figure 14.

^ Make sure the grab portion of the towel bar is upward (see "a" in Figure 8).

^ Figure 14 shows the outer bracket only.

b. Push the towel bar through the front holes of the brackets ("b") and then into the rear holes ("c") until it snaps firmly into place (makes a click noise).

6. Reinstall the finishers, covers, and levers in reverse order of removal.

^ Refer to Steps 4-7 and 10 under "Remove Seat Tracks" as it applies to your type of seat.

7. Reinstall the seat in the vehicle.

^ For seat installation procedure, refer to the appropriate section of the ESM.

^ Do not use the towel bar to lift the seat.

8. Verify the seat operates normally, and feels secure.

9. Reconnect both battery cables, negative cable last.

10. Reset / initialize all applied systems i.e., radio, clock, sunroof, etc.
